About Our Sessions:
Having Africa’s Biggest Rescue and the Haven for Disableds and Special Needs, we have found over the years that so many of the vets do not have the experience and means to compare, from their dealing with single rabbits. Most owners do not give feedback, and most vets do not facilitate getting feedback. due to their already hectic practices.
At the Bunny Haven, we have meticulously noted all the bunnies with the same issues, and then had our special vets insights on our findings. Because we have so many rabbits from all over SA as well as in colonies saved, and because of my special ability to see patterns and stats, we have reached some optimum care schedules, all cleared by our special vets.
It is VERY important that you take your bunny to the vet if you have any means possible. Vets assess differently, and may pick up on other factors that you do not. However, in these sessions, we are going to discuss the INFO on many of the diseases and illnesses that rabbits in South Africa are prone to get. Many areas do not have Rabbit Savvy Vets. Please remember that all Vets, even Exotics vets, are not Rabbit Savvy, and have absolutely no idea what is going on with rabbits. We wish to change that as well. Vets that would like to learn from our experiences are welcome to contact us, to receive all the Information Sessions.
You can Manage your rabbit at home, but you cannot CURE your rabbit at home. They need vets to check all the other issues in creating a viable diagnosis, that can be treated. management may cause the issue to go away, but reappear even worse if you have not organised to see a vet in the mean time. VET CARE IS IMPORTANT.
Our Sessions will have the Information Session, and then a time-span where you can ask questions, which we will answer to the best of our ability. When you registered, you will get an email, and again a pin to enter the session of the day and time you chose.
Our Next Info Session:

Pasteurella
Pasteurella is one of the most common issues in rabbits, with more than 70% rabbits carrying it dormant in their systems. It can appear at any time after periods of stress.
It is very important to have Pasteurella knowledge, as treatment is VERY specific – but the rabbits can be treated and win this. We do not have the Pasteurella Vaccine in South Africa, unlike other countries. This is why you very often do not hear of pasteurella in other countries – the vaccinate young. It is a lifelong vaccine that can be boosted after times of stress.
Pasteurella has many different presentations, and it is very important you recognize it fast and early, to ensure a good prognosis. There will be some graphic images in the presentation, with a warning beforehand.
